About the Book
The Record Plant studios in Sausalito, Marin County, California, was one of America’s top-of-the-line music recording facilities. This location was known as the “resort studio.” It was just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. One of three recording studios designed as the “artist living room,” the first Record Plant was opened in New York City in 1968 by Chris Stone and Gary Kellgren. The second, in Los Angeles, opened in 1969, followed by the third in Sausalito in 1972. With its nautical-inspired interior wood artistry, “The Plant” had a groovy aesthetic and vibe that drew in some of the most iconic musical artists of all time, including Fleetwood Mac, Grateful Dead, Bob Marley, Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, Jefferson Airplane, Rick James, Prince, Santana, Linda Ronstadt, Carrie Underwood, Van Morrison, Tom Petty, Sammy Hagar, Journey, Metallica, Huey Lewis and the News, Dave Matthews Band, and more.
